Abstract
The need for a detergent composition which provides reduced dye transfer to co-washed fabrics, but also reduced dye fading during laundering is met by formulating the detergent composition with a combination of a branched nonionic surfactant and a dye transfer inhibition (DTI) polymer.
Claims20
A laundry detergent composition comprising a surfactant system and dye transfer inhibition (DTI) polymer, wherein the surfactant system comprises:
- a branched nonionic surfactant, and wherein the dye transfer inhibition polymer is a graft copolymer, the graft copolymer comprising:
- a. polyalkylene oxide which has a number average molecular weight of from about 1000 to about 20,000 Daltons and is based on ethylene oxide, propylene oxide, or butylene oxide;
- b. N-vinylpyrrolidone;
- and
- c. vinyl ester derived from a saturated monocarboxylic acid containing from 1 to 6 carbon atoms and/or a methyl or ethyl ester of acrylic or methacrylic acid;
- wherein the weight ratio of (a):(b) is from about 1:0.1 to about 1:2, and
- wherein the amount, by weight, of (a) is greater than the amount of (c);
- wherein the branched nonionic surfactant selected from:
- a) R1-CH(R2)-O—(PO)x(EO)y(PO)z—H Formula I:
- wherein in Formula I:
- R1 is a C4 to C14 alkyl chain;
- R2 is a C1 to C7 alkyl chain;
- x is from about 0 to about 10;
- y is from about 5 to about 20;
- z is from about 0 to about 20;
- EO stands for ethoxylation and PO stands for propoxylation;
- b) R1-CH(R2)CH2-O—(PO)x(EO)y(PO)z—H Formula II:
- wherein in formula II:
- R1 is a C3 to C13 alkyl chain;
- R2 is a C1 to C7 alkyl chain;
- x is from about 0 to about 10;
- y is from about 5 to about 20;
- z is from about 0 to about 20;
- EO stands for ethoxylation and PO stands for propoxylation.
