Abstract
An apparatus and method for path creation element driven dynamic setup of forwarding adjacencies and explicit path. In one embodiment of the method, a node receives an instruction to create a tunnel between the node and another node. The node creates or initiates the creation of the tunnel in response to receiving the instruction, wherein the tunnel comprises a plurality of nodes in data communication between the node and the other node. The node maps a first identifier (ID) to information relating to the tunnel. The node advertises the first ID to other nodes in a network of nodes.
Claims21
(canceled)
A method comprising:
- receiving, at a routing node, a packet, the packet including a first segment identifier (ID) stack, wherein the first segment ID stack comprises one or more segment identifiers;
- and
- responsive to a segment identifier of the one or more segment identifiers being a forwarding adjacency segment identifier:
- accessing a memory to identify a second segment ID stack associated with the forwarding adjacency segment identifier, the second segment ID stack defining a sub-path in a network and comprising a plurality of segment identifiers;
- modifying the first segment ID stack by swapping the forwarding adjacency segment identifier with the plurality of segment identifiers in the second segment ID stack to produce a modified segment ID stack;
- and
- forwarding the packet including the modified segment ID stack.
A network device, comprising:
- a plurality of interfaces operative to transmit and receive packets over a network;
- and
- one or more processors operative to:
- receive, at an ingress interface of the plurality of interfaces, a packet, the packet including a first segment identifier (ID) stack, wherein the first segment identifier stack comprises one or more segment identifiers;
- responsive to a first segment identifier of the one or more segment identifiers being a forwarding adjacency segment identifier:
- access a memory to identify a second segment ID stack associated with the forwarding adjacency segment identifier, the second segment ID stack defining a sub-path in a network and comprising a plurality of segment identifiers;
- modify the first segment ID stack by swapping the forwarding adjacency segment identifier with the plurality of segment identifiers in the second segment ID stack to produce a modified segment ID stack;
- and
- forward the packet including the modified segment ID stack.
