A particle comprising:
- a hydrogel polymer scaffold;
- a polymerase complex comprising a polymerase bound to a double-stranded nucleic acid molecule;
- and
- a polymer shell surrounding both the hydrogel polymer scaffold and polymerase complex, wherein said polymer shell is permeable to a polymerase.
