Abstract
Embodiments described herein relate to a catheter configured to detect at least one blood gas parameter present in blood in an artery of a patient, including, but not limited to, a catheter wall forming at least one lumen configured for umbilical arterial catheterization, at least one optical fiber incorporated in the catheter wall, wherein the at least one optical fiber is configured to detected the at least one blood gas parameter.
Claims20
A catheter configured to detect at least one blood gas parameter present in blood in an artery of a patient, comprising:
- a catheter wall forming at least one lumen configured for umbilical arterial catheterization;
- and
- at least one optical fiber incorporated in the catheter wall, wherein the at least one optical fiber is configured to detected the at least one blood gas parameter.
A method for providing a catheter configured to detect at least one blood gas parameter present in blood in an artery of a patient, the method comprising:
- providing a catheter wall forming at least one lumen configured for umbilical arterial catherization;
- providing at least one optical fiber incorporated in the catheter wall, wherein the at least one optical fiber is configured to detected the at least one blood gas parameter.
A method for determining a blood gas parameter present in blood in an artery of a patient, comprising:
- inserting two optical fibers configured to detect the blood gas parameter into the artery, wherein the two optical fibers are spaced apart from one another;
- determining that first output data from a first optical fiber of the two optical fibers is inaccurate due to the first optical fiber contacting a vascular wall of the artery;
- filtering out the first output data;
- and
- determining the blood gas parameter based on second output data from a second optical fiber of the two optical fibers.
