Abstract
A method of forming a shaped foamed polymer article and articles obtained from said method.
Claims15
A method of forming a shaped foamed polymer article in an injection moulding tool from a polymer composition, the polymer composition comprising a polymer and a foaming agent, wherein the injection moulding tool comprises:
- a cavity in which the article is formed;
- a tool part which is movable to vary the volume of said cavity;
- and wherein the method comprises:
- (a) moving the tool part so that the cavity volume is greater than the volume of the shaped foamed polymer article in its final form;
- (b) reducing the pressure in the cavity;
- (c) injecting the polymer composition into the cavity, wherein the volume of the injected polymer composition is less than the volume of the shaped foamed polymer article in its final form;
- (d) sealing the cavity;
- and
- (e) moving the tool part to reduce the volume of the cavity to correspond to the geometry and volume of the shaped foamed polymer article in its final form.
