Abstract
An apparatus includes a reconfigurable optical add/drop multiplexer (ROADM) having an input port to receive a first optical signal from a second device. The ROADM also includes a first wavelength selective switch (WSS), in optical communication with the input port, to convert the first optical signal into a second optical signal, a loopback, in optical communication with the first WSS, to transmit the second optical signal, and a second WSS, in optical communication with the loopback, to convert the second optical signal to a third optical signal and direct the third optical signal back to the second device via the input port.
Claims20
A method, comprising:
- setting a transponder included in a router to a predetermined frequency;
- sending at least one first signal to a reconfigurable optical add/drop multiplexer (ROADM) via a multiplexer/demultiplexer operatively coupled to the ROADM and the router, the at least one first signal including a first indication of the predetermined frequency and a second indication of a type associated with the multiplexer/demultiplexer;
- setting, after sending the at least one first signal, a timer with a predetermined expiration time;
- receiving at least one second signal from the ROADM via the multiplexer/demultiplexer within the predetermined expiration time;
- determining that the at least one second signal does not indicate an error;
- updating a connection table, in response to determining that the at least one second signal does not indicate the error and based on the at least one second signal, with at least one of identification information associated with the ROADM, a user port associated with the ROADM, or a client port associated with the multiplexer/demultiplexer;
- and
- cancelling the timer in response to determining that the at least one second signal does not indicate the error.
An apparatus, comprising:
- a transponder;
- a memory;
- and
- a processor operatively coupled to the memory and the transponder, the processor configured to:
- generate a frequency table that includes an indication of a set of frequencies associated with a set of reconfigurable optical add/drop multiplexers (ROADMs);
- tune the transponder to a frequency from the set of frequencies;
- cause a first set of signals to be sent to the set of ROADMs, the first set of signals including an indication of the frequency;
- set, after sending the first set of signals, a timer with a predetermined expiration time;
- receive a second set of signals generated from the set of ROADMs within the predetermined expiration time;
- determine that the second set of signals do not indicate an error;
- update a connection table in response to determining that the second set of signals does not indicate the error and based on the second set of signals;
- and
- cancel the timer in response to determining that the second set of signals do not indicate the error.
A non-transitory processor-readable medium storing code representing instructions to be executed by one or more processors, the instructions comprising code to cause the one or more processors to:
- generate a frequency table that includes an indication of a set of frequencies associated with a reconfigurable optical add/drop multiplexer (ROADM);
- select a frequency from the set of frequencies;
- tune a transponder included in a router to the frequency;
- send a first signal to the ROADM via a multiplexer/demultiplexer operatively coupled to the ROADM and the router, the first signal including a first indication of the frequency and a second indication of a type associated with the multiplexer/demultiplexer;
- receiving a second signal from the ROADM via the multiplexer/demultiplexer within a predetermined expiration time;
- determining that the second signal does not indicate an error;
- and
- updating a connection table, in response to determining that the second signal does not indicate the error and based on the second signal, with at least one of identification information associated with the ROADM, a user port associated with the ROADM, or a client port associated with the multiplexer/demultiplexer.
