Abstract
The disclosure provides, inter alia, formulations comprising cerium (III) carbonate, and processes for producing cerium (III) carbonate. In embodiments, the disclosure provides methods for passivating photodegradation of organic compounds using cerium (III) carbonate.

A composition comprising a cerium (III) carbonate and a UV-protecting agent.
A method of consuming a reactive oxygen species synthesized due to exposing skin to ultraviolet radiation, the method comprising placing cerium (III) carbonate on the skin.
A method of preventing oxidative damage due to ultraviolet radiation exposure, the method comprising topically administering an effective amount of cerium (III) carbonate.
