Abstract
This disclosure describes devices and methods related to multiplexing optical datasignals. A method may be disclosed. The method may comprise receiving, by a dense wave division multiplexer (DWDM), one or more optical data signals. The method may comprise combining, by the DWDM, the one or more optical data signals. The method may comprise outputting, by the DWDM, the combined one or more optical data signals to a first circulator. The method may also comprise combining, by the WDM, the second optical data signal and one or more third signals, and outputting an egress optical data signal to an optical switch. The method may also comprise outputting, by the optical switch, the egress optical data signal on a primary fiber.

An optical communication module link extender (OCML) system comprising:
- a dense wave division multiplexer (DWDM), located at a headend, that is configured to receive one or more optical data signals, combine the one or more optical data signals, and output the combined one or more optical data signals;
- a first circulator, located at the headend and communicatively coupled to the DWDM, the first circulator being configured to receive the combined one or more optical data signals from the DWDM and output the combined one or more optical data signals;
- a tunable dispersion compensation module (DCM), located at the headend and coupled to the first circulator, the tunable DCM being configured to receive the combined one or more optical data signals and remove interference between adjacent symbols in the one or more optical data signals;
- and
- an optical switch, located at the headend, that receives an egress optical data signal and outputs the egress optical data signal to a first fiber.
A method for multiplexing one or more optical data signals, the method comprising:
- receiving, by a dense wave division multiplexer (DWDM) located at a headend, one or more optical data signals;
- combining, by the DWDM, the one or more optical data signals;
- outputting, by the DWDM, the combined one or more optical data signals to a first circulator located at the headend;
- outputting, by the first circulator, the combined one or more optical data signals;
- outputting, by the first circulator, the combined one or more optical data signals to a tunable dispersion compensation module (DCM);
- receiving, by the tunable DCM, the combined one or more optical data signals, removing, by the tunable DCM, any interference between adjacent symbols in the one or more optical data signals;
- receiving, by an optical switch located at the headend, an egress optical data signal based on the combined one or more optical data signals;
- and
- outputting, by the optical switch, the egress optical data signal on a primary fiber.
An optical communication module link extender comprising:
- a dense wave division multiplexer (DWDM), located at a headend, that is configured to receive one or more optical data signals from a network, combine the one or more optical data signals, and output the combined one or more optical data signals;
- a first circulator located at the headend and communicatively coupled to the DWDM, the first circulator being configured to receive the combined one or more optical data signals from the DWDM and output the combined one or more optical data signals;
- a tunable dispersion compensation module (DCM), located at the headend, wherein the DCM is configured to:
- receive the combined one or more optical data signals and remove interference between adjacent symbols in the one or more optical data signals;
- a booster optical amplifier located at the headend and communicatively coupled to the tunable DCM, the booster optical amplifier being configured to amplify the combined one or more optical data signals and output a first amplified optical data signal;
- a second circulator, located at the headend and communicatively coupled to the booster optical amplifier, the second circulator being configured to receive the first amplified optical data signal and output the first amplified optical data signal;
- a variable optical amplifier (VOA) located at the headend and communicatively coupled to the second circulator, the VOA being configured to receive the amplified first optical data signal, adjust a power of the amplified first optical data signal to a first level, and output a second optical data signal;
- a first WDM located at the headend and communicatively coupled to the VOA, the WDM is configured to combine the second optical data signal and one or more third signals, and output an egress optical data signal to an optical switch;
- and
- the optical switch communicatively coupled to the WDM, the optical switch configured to output the egress optical data signal on a primary fiber.
