Abstract
A packaging information system recognizes a real world packaging object relating to a product or other item and uses augmented, mixed and/or virtual reality to display information relating to the product/item and/or the transaction on a smart device such as a smartphone or AR glasses.

A method of presenting packaging information to a user characterized by:
- enabling capture by a portable camera of an image of a packaging object;
- recognizing the packaging object from the captured image;
- associating the recognized packaging object with a data record in response to the recognizing;
- selecting a media item in response to the recognition and/or the associating;
- and
- superimposing a selected media item onto a display of the captured image or an image derived therefrom.
