Abstract

An identity management platform comprises a cloud based API layer, an identity service and an ABIS biometric service. The identity service acts as a broker engine integrating travellers, operators, airports and governments, enabling the sharing of identities. The identity service manages travellers' identities and enrols travellers, receiving biometric information and assigning unique identifiers to travellers. A biometric service communicates with the identity service and receives biometric data such as facial data from a traveller's identity document. They also receive biometric data which is supplied by the traveller, for example by taking a photograph at the airport. The ABIS matches the two sets of biometric data and, if the match is successful, associates the unique ID generated for the traveller with the biometric data captured by the traveller. This combination of biometric data may be used to verify the identity of the traveller throughout their journey, both at the port of embarcation and the destination port and any transit ports.

A system for managing identities of travellers, comprising

a platform for sharing of identities with a plurality of parties external to the system and comprising:
an identity management service for enrolling travellers receiving identity information from external providers and assigning unique identifiers to travellers;
a biometric service in communication with the identity service for receiving biometric data from travellers' identity documents, and on enrolment of a traveller, performing a match with biometric data supplied by the traveller and the biometric data from the traveller's identity document, and if the match is successful, associating the traveller's ID with the biometric data supplied by the traveller;
and
an application programming interface (API) comprising a plurality of web services and an application software development kit, the API being open to approved parties external to the system.

A method of enrolling a traveller in an identity management system, the system comprising a platform for sharing of identities with a plurality of parties external to the system and comprising:

an identity application service for enrolling travellers receiving identity information from external providers and assigning unique identifiers to travellers;

assigning a unique identifier to the traveller;
and
storing the unique identifier with the captured biometric data.
