Abstract
Systems and methods for are provided for offloading computing tasks from constrained devices. An example apparatus includes an offload computing protocol (OCP) enabled device. The OCP enabled device includes OCP extensions to the operating system to enable the offloading of computing tasks. A proximity locator may use a radio transceiver to locate an OCP device that can accept a computing task. The OCP enabled device may include an OCP bundle comprising code and data, wherein the OCP bundle is to be sent to the OCP device.

An apparatus comprising:
- a processor;
- and
- memory including instructions, which when executed by the processor, cause the apparatus to:
- locate a plurality of devices within a predetermined vicinity around the apparatus capable of handling a computing task to be offloaded from the apparatus;
- receive an indication of a particular device of the plurality of devices, wherein the particular device is selected based on an amount of power used to communicate in comparison to an amount of remaining battery reserve in the particular device;
- and
- initiate communication with the particular device to offload the computing task.
A method for offloading a computing task from a device, comprising:
- locating a plurality of devices within a predetermined vicinity around the device capable of handling a computing task to be offloaded from the device;
- receiving an indication of a particular device of the plurality of devices, wherein the particular device is selected based on an amount of power used to communicate in comparison to an amount of remaining battery reserve in the particular device;
- and
- initiating communication with the particular device to offload the computing task.
A networked system comprising:
- a first device;
- and
- a plurality of second devices, wherein the first device comprises:
- a radio transceiver;
- a processor;
- and
- memory including instructions, which when executed by the processor, cause the first device to:
- locate the plurality of second devices within a predetermined vicinity around the first device capable of handling a computing task to be offloaded from the first device;
- receive an indication of a particular device of the plurality of second devices, wherein the particular device is selected based on an amount of power used to communicate in comparison to an amount of remaining battery reserve in the particular device;
- and
- initiate communication with the particular device via the radio transceiver to offload the computing task.
