Abstract
A method to have a fast, contactless & re-usable sensor to detect the presence of hydrocarbons on surfaces by analyzing the reflected light of the sensor. The invention generally is a sensor device which includes a light emitting source, a reflective light spectrum analyzer which is able to detect the specificity of the reflectivity of hydrocarbons on surfaces.

A an optical hydrocarbon leak sensor device to detect the presence of hydrocarbons on surfaces by analyzing the reflected light of the sensor, the device comprising:
- a light emitting source;
- and
- a reflective light spectrum analyzer which is able to detect the specificity of the reflectivity of hydrocarbons on surfaces.
A method to have a fast, contactless & re-usable sensor to detect the presence of hydrocarbons on surfaces by analyzing the reflected light of the sensor, the method comprising
- providing a sensor device which includes
- a light emitting source, and
- a reflective light spectrum analyzer which is able to detect the specificity of the reflectivity of hydrocarbons on surfaces;
- using light as a method to detect hydrocarbons;
- using light as a method to identify hydrocarbons;
- capturing the light reflected by a surface;
- and
- identifying in that light the distinct reflection of a hydrocarbon.
