Abstract
In accordance with one embodiment of the present disclosure, a nonwoven web may be manufactured by a process that includes forming a bicomponent fiber and forming the bicomponent fiber into the nonwoven web. The bicomponent fiber may comprise one or more primary polymer regions and two or more secondary polymer regions. The primary polymer regions may comprise polyethylene. The secondary polymer regions may comprise polypropylene, polyester, or polyamide. The primary polymer regions may comprise at least 2.5 wt. % of polypropylene, polyester, or polyamide, or the secondary polymer regions may comprise at least 2.5 wt. % of polyethylene, or both.
Claims15
A process for manufacturing a nonwoven web, the process comprising:
- forming a bicomponent fiber, the bicomponent fiber comprising one or more primary polymer regions and two or more secondary polymer regions, wherein:
- the primary polymer regions comprise polyethylene;
- the secondary polymer regions comprise polypropylene, polyester, or polyamide;
- the primary polymer regions comprise at least 2.5 wt. % of polypropylene, polyester, or polyamide, or the secondary polymer regions comprise at least 2.5 wt. % of polyethylene, or both;
- when the primary polymer regions comprise at least 2.5 wt. % of polypropylene, polyester, or polyamide, the primary polymer regions are at least partially formed from a feed nonwoven web material;
- when the secondary polymer regions comprise at least 2.5 wt. % of polyethylene, the secondary polymer regions are at least partially formed from the feed nonwoven web material;
- and
- the feed nonwoven web material comprises:
- polyethylene;
- and
- polypropylene, polyester, or polyamide;
- and
- forming the bicomponent fiber into the nonwoven web.
A process for manufacturing a nonwoven web, the process comprising:
- forming a bicomponent fiber by feeding polyethylene into a primary polymer region material feed and polypropylene, polyester, or polyamide into a secondary polymer region material feed of a fiber forming device, the bicomponent fiber comprising one or more primary polymer regions each formed from the polyethylene and two or more secondary polymer regions formed from the polypropylene, polyester, or polyamide;
- removing a waste portion of the nonwoven web, the waste portion comprising:
- polyethylene;
- and
- polypropylene, polyester, or polyamide;
- feeding at least some of the waste portion into the fiber forming machine such that bicomponent fiber is formed, wherein:
- the primary polymer regions comprise at least 2.5 wt. % of polypropylene, polyester, or polyamide;
- or
- the secondary polymer regions comprise at least 2.5 wt. % of polyethylene;
- or both.
A nonwoven web formed from bicomponent fiber, wherein the bicomponent fiber comprises:
- one or more primary polymer regions and two or more secondary polymer regions, wherein:
- the primary polymer regions comprise at least 80 wt. % polyethylene;
- the secondary polymer regions comprise at least 80 wt. % polypropylene, polyester, or polyamide;
- and
- wherein:
- the primary polymer regions comprise at least 2.5 wt. % of polypropylene, polyester, or polyamide, and the primary polymer region is at least partially formed from a feed nonwoven web material comprising (a) polyethylene and (b) polypropylene, polyester, or polyamide;
- or
- the secondary polymer regions comprise at least 2.5 wt. % of polyethylene, and the secondary polymer region is at least partially formed from a feed nonwoven web material comprising (a) polyethylene and (b) polypropylene, polyester, or polyamide;
- or both.
