A composition comprising:
- copper(I) 5-nitrotetrazolate, wherein the composition has a carbon content of less than 7 weight percent, based on a total weight of the copper(I) 5-nitrotetrazolate.
A method of manufacturing copper(I) 5-nitrotetrazolate, the method comprising:
- providing an electrochemical cell having a working electrode and a counter electrode, and an aqueous electrolyte disposed therein, wherein the aqueous electrolyte comprises Cu2+, SO42−, and a Group 17 anion;
- electrochemically reducing the Cu2+ to form a Cu+ species;
- and
- contacting the Cu+ species with 5-nitrotetrazolate to form copper(I) 5-nitrotetrazolate.
