Abstract
A function key scan code is received from an external keyboard communicatively connected to the computing device. The function key scan code corresponds to a function key of the external keyboard having been pressed. Whether function keys of an internal keyboard of the computing device are configured in an action key mode is determined. In response to determining that the function keys of the internal keyboard of the computing device are configured in the action key mode, the function key scan code received from the external keyboard is converted to an action key scan code.
Claims15
A non-transitory computer-readable data storage medium storing program code executable by a computing device to perform processing comprising:
- receiving a function key scan code from an external keyboard communicatively connected to the computing device, the function key scan code corresponding to a function key of the external keyboard having been pressed;
- determining whether function keys of an internal keyboard of the computing device are configured in an action key mode;
- and
- in response to determining that the function keys of the internal keyboard of the computing device are configured in the action key mode, converting the function key scan code received from the external keyboard to an action key scan code.
A computing device comprising:
- an internal keyboard having a plurality of function keys having a configuration switchable between an action key mode and a function key mode;
- a processor;
- and
- a memory storing program code executable by the processor to process presses of a plurality of function keys of an external keyboard communicatively connectable to the computing device according to the configuration of the function keys of the internal keyboard.
A method comprising:
- receiving, by a keyboard driver of an operating system running on a computing device, a function key scan code from an external keyboard communicatively connected to the computing device, the function key scan code corresponding to a function key of the external keyboard having been pressed;
- in response to determining that function keys of an internal keyboard of the computing device are configured in an action key mode:
- converting, by the keyboard driver, the function key scan code to an action key scan code;
- and
- sending, by the keyboard driver, the action key scan code to a higher layer of the operating system.
