Wheel and brake assemblies

A braking assembly for inhibiting rotation of a wheel around a rotation axis, the braking assembly comprising:

• a drive gear configured to rotate with the wheel, the drive gear including a pinion;
• an actuator;
• an electric braking assembly comprising:
• a coil surrounding the rotation axis;
• and
• a magnetic disc assembly concentric with the coil and configured to rotate relative to the coil, the magnetic disc assembly comprising a plurality of magnets at a perimeter of a disc;
• a mechanical braking assembly comprising a brake pad;
• and
• a brake rotor that is fixedly coupled to the wheel,
• wherein the actuator engages the pinion to mechanically couple the drive gear and the magnetic disc assembly to cause relative rotation between the plurality of magnets and the coil to generate an electro motive force that inhibits rotation of the wheel around the rotation axis,
• wherein the actuator engages the brake pad such that the brake pad contacts the brake rotor causing friction that inhibits relative rotation between the wheel and the brake pad.
