Abstract
Example implementations relating to a mechanical vise are disclosed herein. In one particular implementation, a first jaw piece includes a first slip surface a second jaw piece includes a second slip surface. The first slip surface may be moveable with respect to the second slip surface, while in slip contact with the second slip surface, to at least in part apply a force against a workpiece.
Claims18
A vise comprising:
- one or more first jaw pieces, at least one of the first jaw pieces to comprise at least one first slip surface;
- and
- at least a second jaw piece to comprise at least a second slip surface, wherein the first slip surface is moveable with respect to the second slip surface, while in slip contact with the second slip surface, to at least in part apply a force against a workpiece.
A method comprising:
- placing a first slip surface of a first jaw piece in slip contact with a second slip surface of a second jaw piece;
- placing a third slip surface of a third jaw piece in slip contact with a fourth slip surface of the second jaw piece;
- and
- moving the first and third jaw pieces closer together while maintaining the first slip surface in slip contact with the second slip surface and while maintaining the third slip surface in slip contact with the fourth slip surface to apply a force to the third jaw piece to secure a workpiece in a vise.
The method of claim 16, wherein moving the first and third jaw pieces closer together comprises applying a torque about an axis that is oblique with respect to a direction of the force.
Dependencies are inferred from the claim text.
