Abstract
Phase change material compositions and methods for using the compositions to prepare substrate coatings or bulk blended polymers that advantageously lower friction between interacting substrate surfaces and lower substrate surface wear.
Claims19
A method for coating a substrate to enhance the tribological and mechanical performance of a coating, comprising coating a surface of the substrate with a phase change material composition,
- wherein the phase change material composition comprises a combination of a phase change material and a polymeric material, and
- wherein the polymeric material is selected from the group consisting of an aromatic thermosetting copolyester (ATSP), a polyetherketone (PEEK), a polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), a polyimide, and mixtures thereof.
A method for coating a substrate to enhance the tribological and mechanical performance of a coating, comprising coating a surface of the substrate with a phase change material composition,
- wherein the phase change material composition comprises a combination of a phase change material and a polymeric material, and
- wherein the polymeric material is combination of an aromatic thermosetting copolyester (ATSP) and one or more of a polyetherketone (PEEK), a polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), a polyimide, or mixtures thereof.
A method for producing an article of manufacture (e.g., a part), comprising:
- (a) forming a blend of a polymeric material and a phase change material into a predetermined shape;
- and
- (b) sintering the blend in the predetermined shape to provide an article of manufacture.
