Abstract
A coating system for an aluminum component includes a substrate formed from an aluminum material, a zinc or zinc alloy sacrificial layer deposited on the substrate, and an aluminum coating deposited over the zinc or zinc alloy sacrificial layer.

A method for forming a coating system which enhances resistance against corrosion comprising the steps of:
- providing a substrate formed from an aluminum material;
- forming a zinc material underlayer on a surface of said substrate;
- and
- forming an aluminum coating on said zinc material underlayer.
