Succulent extract and alginate combined solutions and products incorporating them

A composition comprising:

• (a) a succulent extract, and
• (b) alginic acid and/or one or more salts thereof,
• wherein:
• the alginic acid and/or one or more salts thereof is present in an amount in a range from 4 wt % to 33 wt % or a range of 25 wt % to 50 wt % relative to the total of the alginic acid and/or one or more salts thereof and the succulent extract, both on a dry basis;
• when the alginic acid and/or one or more salts thereof is present in an amount in a range from 25 wt % to 50 wt % relative to the total of the alginic acid and/or one or more salts thereof and the succulent extract, the composition has a viscosity that is higher than the viscosity of either component (a) or (b);
• and
• when the alginic acid and/or one or more salts thereof is present in an amount in a range from 4 wt % to 33 wt % relative to the total of the alginic acid and/or one or more salts thereof and the succulent extract, the composition forms a gel in water in the absence of any added calcium ions;
• and
• the succulent extract comprises an extract from at least one plant selected from
• the order Asparagales, family Asparagaceae, sub-family Agave,
• the order Caryophyllales, family Aizoaceae and
• the order Saxifragales, family Crassulaceae.
