Apparatus and methods for recording, accessing, and delivering packetized content

A computerized method of providing a second computerized client device access to digital content recorded via a first computerized client device, the first and second computerized client devices associated with a content distribution network, the computerized method comprising:

• receiving, from the first computerized client device associated, data representative of a first request to record the digital content;
• causing storage of the digital content at a first storage location of a multi-user partitioned cloud-based storage apparatus, wherein the digital content is at least one of (i) useable by the first computerized client device at the first storage location, or (ii) transferable from the first storage location;
• receiving, from the second computerized client device, data representative of a request to access the digital content;
• and
• based at least on the receipt of the data representative of the request to access the digital content, transfer the digital content from the first storage location to a second storage location of the multi-user partitioned cloud-based storage apparatus, wherein the digital content is unusable by the first computerized client device but usable by the second computerized client device at the second storage location.

Computer readable apparatus comprising a non-transitory storage medium, the non-transitory storage medium comprising at least one computer program, the at least one computer program comprising a plurality of instructions which are configured to, when executed by a processing apparatus, cause a recording management apparatus to:

• receive, from a first computerized client device associated with a content distribution network, data representative of a first request to store digital content;
• cause storage of the digital content at a storage location of a cloud-based storage apparatus;
• receive, from a second computerized client device, data representative of a request to access the digital content, the data representative of a request to access the digital content comprising metadata;
• utilize at least a portion of the metadata to identify the storage location;
• generate identifier data associated with the storage location;
• and
• provide the identifier data to the second computerized client device, wherein the identifier data enables the second computerized client device to access the digital content at the storage location.

A computerized mobile device associated with a content distribution network, the computerized mobile device comprising:

• a digital processor apparatus;
• and
• a storage apparatus in data communication with the digital processor apparatus, the storage apparatus comprising at least one computer program, the at least one computer program comprising a plurality of instructions which are configured to, when executed by the digital processor apparatus, cause the computerized mobile device to:
• cause storage of digital content at a storage location of a cloud-based storage apparatus;
• transmit, to computerized network apparatus, data representative of a request to access the digital content at the storage location of the cloud-based storage apparatus, the data representative of a request comprising metadata;
• receive, from the computerized network apparatus, identifier data indicative of at the storage location of the cloud-based storage apparatus, the identifier data generated by the computerized network apparatus based at least on a portion the metadata;
• and
• utilize at least the identifier data to access the digital content at the storage location.

A method of operating a content distribution network comprising a core portion and at least one edge-cache in data communication with the core portion, the at least one edge cache configured for provision to one or more computerized user devices associated with the content distribution network, the method comprising:

• identifying at least one load condition associated with at least a portion of the content distribution network;
• and
• based at least in part on the identified at least one load condition, causing placement of a plurality of digital content associated with respective ones of a plurality of users or user accounts on the at least one edge cache, the placement based at least on at least a proximity of the respective ones of the plurality of users to the at least one edge cache;
• wherein the placement is configured to achieve at least one of (i) reduced load on the core portion of the content distribution network;
• (ii) reduced latency in providing the plurality of digital content to the respective ones of the users;
• or (iii) enhanced failure tolerance.
