Methods and systems for transmitting error correction packets

A method for managing an error correction mode between a first communication router and a second communication router, comprising:

• (a) at the second communication router:
• when a first original data packet is not received, sending a delay inquiry message to the first communication router;
• (b) at the first communication router:
• activating, based on the delay inquiry message, the error correction mode;
• (c) at the first communication router:
• transmitting a copy of the first original data packet and a first error correction packet to the second communication router;
• wherein the first error correction packet corresponds to the first original data packet;
• (d) at the first communication router:
• sending a second original data packet with a copy of the second original data packet and a second error correction packet to the second communication router;
• wherein the second error correction packet corresponds to the second original data packet;
• (e) at the second communication router:
• when the second original data packet, the copy of the second original data packet, and the second error correction packet are received, sending a back-to-normal message to the first communication router;
• and
• (f) at the first communication router:
• deactivating, based on the back-to-normal message, the error correction mode.

A system for transmitting data packets at a first communication router to a second communication router, wherein the first communications router comprises:

• a plurality of network interfaces;
• at least one processing unit;
• at least one computer readable storage medium storing program instructions executable by the at least one processing unit for:
• (a) determining whether an error correction mode is activated or not;
• (b) when the error correction mode is activated, sending a copy of each original data packet in a plurality of original data packets and a respective error correction packet in a plurality of error correction packets to the second communication router;
• and
• (c) when the error correction mode is not activated, sending the plurality of original data packets to the second communication router.
