Abstract
This disclosure describes techniques that enable individual antenna arrays of a base station node to transmit digital information via a plurality of frequency bands. More specifically, a remote radio unit (RRU) may include a first set of antenna arrays and a second set of antenna arrays. Each set of antenna arrays comprise antenna elements that are configured for use with different frequency bands. In this way, the RRU, via the first and second sets of antenna arrays, may be configured for simultaneous use with different frequency bands.
Claims20
A remote radio unit, comprising:
- a first antenna array and a second antenna array,
- wherein, the first antenna array comprises a first plurality of antenna elements configured for use with a first frequency band,
- wherein, the second antenna array comprises a second plurality of array elements configured for use with a second frequency band that is different from the first frequency band, and
- wherein, the first antenna array and the second antenna array are configured for simultaneous use with the first frequency band and the second frequency band.

An antenna system, comprising:
- a first set of antenna arrays configured for use with a first frequency band and a second frequency band, the second frequency band being different from the first frequency band;
- and
- a second set of antenna arrays configured for use with at least a third frequency band that is different from the first frequency band and the second frequency band, and
- wherein, the first antenna array and the second antenna array are configured for simultaneous use with the first frequency band, the second frequency band, and the third frequency band.

A base station node, comprising:
- a Remote Radio Unit (RRU) that includes an interface unit, a set of transceivers, a first set of antenna arrays and a second set of antenna arrays;
- and
- a baseband unit communicatively coupled to the RRU, the baseband unit configured to transmit digital information and control signals to the interface unit of the RRU,
- wherein the first set of antenna arrays are configured for use with a first plurality of frequency bands and the second set of antenna arrays are configured for use with a second plurality of frequency bands that are different from the first plurality of frequency bands, and
- wherein, the set of transceivers are configured to convert the digital information to the first plurality of frequency bands or the second plurality of frequency bands, based at least in part on the control signals.
