Processing apparatus having a reference identification tied to a locked entry

A non-transitory computer-readable medium storing computer program code means for performing a method for providing a financial statement while overcoming inefficiencies associated with producing journal entries relating to the financial statement by not producing the journal entries, the method comprising:

• receiving a plurality of accounting transactions, at least one of the transactions comprising multiple parts that each detail a component of the at least one of the transactions,
• wherein each of the multiple parts comprises a transaction date,
• wherein the transaction date for each of the multiple parts comprises a single date that is the same for each of the multiple parts,
• wherein each of the multiple parts is assigned to at least one of an income account, an expense account, and an account having an effect of at least one of increasing and decreasing net income, comprises an accrual date, and
• wherein the accrual date comprises an individual accrual date that is variable between each of the multiple parts;
• dynamically adjusting entries by categorizing and summing each of the multiple parts by determining:
• whether the transaction date for each of the multiple parts falls at least one of:
• (i) before a period of interest, (ii) within the period of interest but before a closing date of a prior period, (iii) within the period of interest but after the closing date of the prior period, (iv) after the period of interest, and (v) within the period of interest;
• and
• whether the individual accrual date of each of the multiple parts falls at least one of:
• (i) before the period of interest, (ii) within the period of interest, and (iii) after the period of interest;
• generating the financial statement, without requiring production of a journal entry, by summing each of the multiple parts based on timing of the transaction date and the individual accrual dates;
• and
• locking at least one part of the plurality of accounting transactions in accordance with pre-established criteria, the pre-established criteria comprising at least one of the following scenarios:
• (a) for parts of each transaction assigned to an income statement account, locking, as to modifications to an account assigned, a debit amount, a credit amount, a corresponding accrual date, and the transaction date, specific parts of the transaction for which the corresponding accrual dates are before an end date of a most-recent closed period and for which the corresponding transaction dates are at least one of:
• before the most-recent closed period end date, and
• after the most-recent closed period end date but before a corresponding closing date of the most-recent closed period;
• and
• (b) for transaction parts not linked to the at least one of the income account and the expense account, locking, as to modifications to the account assigned, the debit amount, the credit amount, the corresponding accrual dates, and corresponding transaction dates, certain parts of the transaction for which the corresponding transaction dates are at least one of:
• before the most-recent closed period's end date, and
• after the most-recent closed period's end date but before the most-recent closed period's closing date.

A non-transitory computer-readable media storing computer program code means for performing a method for providing a financial statement while overcoming inefficiencies associated with producing journal entries relating to the financial statement by not producing the journal entries and for overcoming errors due to at least one of deletions and modifications to transactional information, the method comprising:

• receiving a plurality of accounting transactions, at least one of the transactions comprising multiple parts that each detail a component of the at least one of the transactions,
• wherein each of the multiple parts comprises a transaction date,
• wherein the transaction date for each of the multiple parts comprises a single date that is the same for each of the multiple parts,
• wherein each of the multiple parts is assigned to at least one of an income account, an expense account, and an account having an effect of at least one of increasing and decreasing net income, comprises an accrual date, and
• wherein the accrual date comprises an individual accrual date that is variable between each of the multiple parts;
• dynamically adjusting entries by categorizing and summing each of the multiple parts by determining:
• whether the transaction date for each of the multiple parts falls at least one of:
• (i) before a period of interest, (ii) within the period of interest but before a closing date of a prior period, (iii) within the period of interest but after the closing date of the prior period, (iv) after the period of interest, and (v) within the period of interest;
• and
• whether the individual accrual date of each of the multiple parts falls at least one of:
• (i) before the period of interest, (ii) within the period of interest, and (iii) after the period of interest;
• generating the financial statement, without requiring production of a journal entry, by summing each of the multiple parts based on timing of the transaction date and the individual accrual dates;
• and
• locking at least one part of the plurality of accounting transactions in accordance with pre-established criteria, the pre-established criteria comprising at least one of the following scenarios:
• (a) for parts of each transaction assigned to an income statement account, locking, as to modifications to an account assigned, a debit amount, a credit amount, the corresponding accrual date, and the transaction date, specific parts of the transaction for which the corresponding accrual dates are before an end date of a most-recent closed period and for which the corresponding transaction dates are at least one of:
• before the most-recent closed period end date, and
• after the most-recent closed period end date but before a corresponding closing date of the most-recent closed period;
• and
• (b) for transaction parts not linked to the at least one of the income account and the expense account, locking, as to modifications to the account assigned, the debit amount, the credit amount, the corresponding accrual dates, and the corresponding transaction dates, certain parts of the transaction for which the corresponding transaction dates are at least one of:
• before the most-recent closed period's end date, and
• after the most-recent closed period's end date but before the most-recent closed period's closing date,
• wherein the non-transitory computer-readable media comprises executable code for at least one of modifying and voiding a closed transaction by creating a reversing entry, marking an original transaction corresponding to the reversing entry, annotating a date of the reversal entry, and having a computer system create a reversing query that is stored as a transaction using the date of the reversing entry as the transaction date within the reversing query.
