A method for synthesizing nanoparticles, comprising:
- providing an aqueous solution of Cd(NO3)2;
- providing mesoporous SiO2 nanoparticles having nanochannels therein;
- infusing the aqueous solution of Cd(NO3)2 into the nanochannels of the mesoporous SiO2 nanoparticles;
- and
- performing calcination at a temperature in the range of about 850° C. to about 950° C. to form nanoparticles having substantially uniform spherical morphology and narrow size distribution.
