Methods and Systems for Overlaid Pay Modalities on Selected Symbols in Gaming Machines

A method of increasing a payout on a gaming device that includes a plurality of reels, a display operable to display at least a portion of each of the plurality of reels, and a controller comprising a processor and a memory storing a symbol set including a plurality of game symbols, a plurality of predetermined symbols, and a plurality of special symbols, and instructions, which, when executed, cause the processor to at least to initiate a game, the method comprising:

• selecting a plurality of symbols for display at the plurality of reels based on one or more random numbers generated by a random number generator;
• overlaying a plurality of special values on the plurality of special symbols selected for the plurality of reels, wherein the plurality of special values represent increasing values from a first reel to a second reel;
• determining if a win combination exists via at least one of the predetermined symbols and the plurality of special symbols selected for display across the plurality of reels;
• and
• determining the payout based on the plurality of special values overlaid on the plurality of reels on the win combination.

A non-transitory computer-readable medium comprising a symbol set including a plurality of game symbols, a plurality of noncredit symbols, and a plurality of credit symbols, and instructions to conduct a game on a gaming device having a display operable to display a portion of each of a plurality of reels, and a controller comprising a processor, the instructions, when executed, cause the processor to perform the steps of:

• selecting a plurality of symbols from the symbol set for display at the plurality of reels based on one or more random numbers generated by a random number generator;
• determining a first set of credit values and a second set of credit values on the plurality of credit symbols selected for a first reel and a second reel of the plurality of reels, respectively, the second reel being adjacent the first reel, wherein the first set of credit values has a range of credit values less than the second set of credit values;
• determining whether a first credit symbol of the plurality of credit symbols selected for the first reel, a second credit symbol of the plurality of credit symbols selected for the second reel, and a third noncredit symbol selected for a third reel of the plurality of reels include a win combination;
• and
• determining a payout based on a first credit value of the first set of credit values on the first credit symbol of the plurality of credit symbols on the first reel, and a second credit value of the second set of credit values on the second credit symbol on the second reel.
