The present invention relates to the use of BMMF Rep-protein as biomarker for prostate cancer.

1) A biomarker for prostate cancer comprising a Bovine Meat and Milk Factor Group 1 (BMMF1) Rep Protein.
3) A method for providing a diagnosis or predisposition for prostate cancer in a subject, comprising detecting Rep protein in a sample from a subject by anti-Rep antibodies that bind to an epitope comprising SEQ ID NO:2 or SEQ ID NO:3.
