Abstract
Air filter device comprising: one or more pleated air filters where the pleated air filters are cylindrical and designed according to the relation Gu=fhPr,/(2roε0.25)>0.8; and a motor for rotating the pleated air filters, wherein ρr(ro−ri)/ρs; ro=outer radius of the cylindrical pleated filter, fh=height of the cylindrical filter, ri=inner radius of the cylindrical pleated filter, ps=distance between two adjacent pleat tops on the inner radius, ε-ASHRAE efficiency.
Claims35
An air filter device, comprising:
- at least one pleated air filter;
- and
- a motor for rotating the at least one pleated air filter, wherein the at least one air filter has a cylindrical form, and wherein the air filter device is further designed so that a dimensionless number (Gu) is greater than 0.8,
- wherein the Gu is determined based on a height of the at least one rotating pleated air filter (fh), an outer pressure generating radius (ro), an inner radius of the at least one rotating pleated air filter (ri), a pleat spacing (ps), and a filter efficiency (ε), such that Gu=fh*pr/(2*ro*ε{circumflex over ( )}1/4), where pr=(ro−ri)/ps,
- wherein the Gu correlates to a function of a commercial usefulness based on, and accounting for, needs of a customer comprising one or more of a clean air delivery rate (CADR), a noise emitted (dB), product size, a product functioning. or a cost,
- wherein the pleat spacing is a distance between two adjacent pleat tops on the inner radius and the filter efficiency is an American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) efficiency.
