Abstract
Apparatuses and methods for pressure regulating check valve assemblies are described. In an example, the check valve assembly comprises a housing defining a fluid passage having a fluid inlet side and a fluid outlet side. A lift check valve positioned within the fluid passage oriented to restrict fluid flow from the fluid inlet side and a second check valve positioned within the fluid passage oriented to restrict fluid flow from the fluid outlet side. A flow dampener is positioned within the fluid passage and between the first and second check valves.
Claims20
A check valve assembly, comprising:
- a housing defining a fluid passage comprising a fluid inlet side and a fluid outlet side;
- a lift check valve positioned within the fluid passage oriented to restrict fluid flow from the fluid inlet side and comprising a spring that biases a closing member into engagement with a seat, the closing member and spring being movable in a spring chamber comprising a first flow orifice;
- a check valve positioned within the fluid passage oriented to restrict fluid flow from the fluid outlet side;
- and
- a flow dampener positioned within the fluid passage such that the flow dampener moves to control pressure within the fluid passage to control the opening and closing speed of the lift check valve.
A method, comprising:
- applying fluid pressure to a check valve assembly comprising:
- a housing defining a fluid passage comprising a fluid inlet side and a fluid outlet side;
- a lift check valve positioned within the fluid passage oriented to restrict fluid flow from the fluid inlet side and comprising a spring that biases a closing member into engagement with a seat, the closing member and spring being movable in a spring chamber comprising a first flow orifice;
- and
- a check valve positioned within the fluid passage oriented to restrict fluid flow from the fluid outlet side;
- lifting, in response to the fluid pressure, the closing member off of a seat of the lift check valve to permit fluid to flow through the lift check valve;
- and
- controlling the pressure within the fluid passage by moving a flow dampener to control the opening and closing speed of the lift check valve.
