A method for regulating expression of interleukin-1β (IL-1β) gene, matrix metallopeptidase 1a (MMP1a) gene, and TIMP metallopeptidase inhibitor 1 (TIMP1) gene of chondrocytes, comprising administering to a subject in need thereof a composition comprising an effective amount of a Lactobacillus plantarum strain.
