Abstract
An outdoor building includes a plurality of vertical posts and a roof structure. The roof structure includes a substructure, a pair of side panels, and a pair of end panels. The substructure is coupled with the vertical posts via post brackets. The pair of side panels and the pair of end panels are coupled with the substructure. A method is also provided.

A substructure for a building, the substructure comprising:
- a main support beam including opposing ends and defining a centerline;
- a first bracket attached to one of the opposing ends of the main support beam;
- a second bracket attached to another one of the opposing ends of the main support beam;
- a first pair of lateral beams attached to the first bracket, each lateral beam of the first pair of lateral beams being horizontally angled from the centerline by a first horizontal angle and being angled vertically from the centerline by a first vertical angle;
- and
- a second pair of lateral beams attached to the second bracket, each lateral beam of the second pair of lateral beams being horizontally angled from the centerline by a second horizontal angle and being angled vertically from the centerline by a second vertical angle.
A roof structure for a building, the roof structure comprising:
- a substructure comprising:
- a main support beam including a first end and a second end;
- a first lateral beam and a second lateral beam each coupled to the first end of the main support beam and extending therefrom;
- and
- a third lateral beam and a fourth lateral beam each coupled to the second end of the main support beam and extending therefrom;
- a first side panel disposed on one side of the substructure, the first side panel comprising a front rim joist, a right side rim joist, and a left side rim joist;
- a second side panel disposed on another side of the substructure opposite the first side panel, the second side panel comprising a front rim joist, a right side rim joist, and a left side rim joist;
- a first end panel disposed on one end of the substructure and between the first side panel and the second side panel, the first end panel comprising a right side rim joist and a left side rim joist;
- and
- a second end panel disposed on another side of the substructure opposite the first end panel and between the first side panel and the second side panel, the second end panel comprising a right side rim joist and a left side rim joist, wherein:
- the main support beam is sandwiched between and coupled with the front rim joist of the first side panel and the front rim joist of the second side panel;
- the first lateral beam is sandwiched between and coupled with the right side rim joist of the first side panel and the left side rim joist of the first end panel;
- the second lateral beam is sandwiched between and coupled with the left side rim joist of the second side panel and the right side rim joist of the first end panel;
- the third lateral beam is sandwiched between and coupled with the right side rim joist of the second side panel and the left side rim joist of the second end panel;
- and
- the fourth lateral beam is sandwiched between and coupled with the left side rim joist of the first side panel and the right side rim joist of the second end panel.
A post bracket for a substructure of a roof of a building, the post bracket comprising:
- a base;
- a post extending from the base;
- and
- a cradle coupled with the post, the cradle comprising a lower flange and a pair of side flanges that are parallel to each other, spaced from each other, and extend substantially orthogonally from the lower flange such that the cradle is substantially u-shaped, wherein the lower flange is angled with respect to the base.
A method for assembling an outdoor building, the method comprising:
- assembling an upright structure comprising a plurality of vertical posts and lateral supports;
- assembling a pair of side panels apart from the upright structure, each side panel of the pair of side panels comprising a front rim joist, a rear rim joist, and a pair of side rim joists that extend between the front rim joist and the rear rim joist, a plurality of rafters, and a cover panel that overlies the plurality of rafters;
- assembling a pair of end panels apart from the upright structure, each end panel of the pair of end panels comprising a front rim joist, a rear rim joist, and a pair of end rim joists that extend between the front rim joist and the rear rim joist, a plurality of rafters, and a cover panel that overlies the plurality of rafters;
- assembling a substructure apart from the upright structure, the side panels and the end panels, the substructure comprising:
- a main support beam including opposing ends and defining a centerline;
- a first bracket attached to one of the opposing ends of the main support beam;
- a second bracket attached to another one of the opposing ends of the main support beam;
- a first pair of lateral beams attached to the first bracket, each lateral beam of the first pair of lateral beams being horizontally angled from the centerline by a first horizontal angle and being angled vertically from the centerline by a first vertical angle;
- and
- a second pair of lateral beams attached to the second bracket, each lateral beam of the second pair of lateral beams being horizontally angled from the centerline by a second horizontal angle and being angled vertically from the centerline by a second vertical angle;
- attaching post brackets at a top of each vertical post of the plurality of vertical posts, each of the post brackets comprising a cradle;
- installing the substructure on top of the post brackets by inserting each lateral beam of the first pair of lateral beams and the second pair of lateral beams into one of the cradles of the post brackets;
- and
- attaching each lateral beam of the first pair of lateral beams and the second pair of lateral beams to the post brackets;
- installing each of the side panels over the upright structure such that, for each of the side panels, the front rim joist interfaces with the main support beam and each the side rim joists interface with one of the lateral beams of the first pair of lateral beams and one of the lateral beams of the second pair of lateral beams;
- installing one of the end panels over the upright structure and between the pair of side panels such that the side rim joists interface with the lateral beams of the first pair of lateral beams;
- installing another of the end panels over the upright structure and between the pair of side panels such that the side rim joists interface with the lateral beams of the second pair of lateral beams;
- wherein each lateral beam is sandwiched between one of the side rim joists of the side panel and one of the side rim joists of the end panel, and the main support beam is sandwiched between the front rim joists;
- attaching each side rim joist to the lateral beam sandwiched therebetween from beneath the substructure;
- and
- attaching the front rim joists to the main support beam sandwiched therebetween from beneath the substructure.
