Per-band fault signaling in a multi-band optical transmission system

A non-transitory computer-readable medium configured to store a computer program having instructions that, when executed, enable one or more processing devices to

• in response to a detected fault in a multi-band communication system impacting only a specific band of the multi-band communication system, create a fault signal corresponding to the detected fault, and
• convey the fault signal to at least one of an upstream controller and a downstream controller of the multi-band communication system to trigger an action for handling the detected fault only on the specific band, wherein the action is replacing the specific band with Amplified Spontaneous Emission (ASE), independently of any other bands of the multi-band communication system.

A method comprising the steps of

• in response to a detected fault in a multi-band communication system impacting only a specific band of the multi-band communication system, creating a fault signal corresponding to the detected fault, and
• conveying the fault signal to at least one of an upstream controller and a downstream controller of the multi-band communication system to trigger an action for handling the detected fault only on the specific band, wherein the action is replacing the specific band with Amplified Spontaneous Emission (ASE), independently of any other bands of the multi-band communication system.
