Abstract
System and methods are disclosed for rapid license plate reading. A first image having a first resolution may be generated. A location of a license plate in the first image may be detected. The license plate may be read from a second image in accordance with the location of the license plate. The second image may have a second resolution greater than the first resolution. In embodiments, reading the license plate may comprise tracking the license plate across a plurality of license plate images.
Claims20
A computer-implemented method comprising:
- generating a first image having a first resolution;
- detecting a location of a license plate in the first image;
- and
- reading the license plate from a second image in accordance with the location of the license plate, wherein the second image has a second resolution greater than the first resolution.
A vehicle-mounted imaging device comprising:
- an image sensor configured to capture an image of a license plate at a capture resolution;
- an output interface;
- a processor in communication with the image sensor and the output interface;
- and
- a non-transitory computer-readable storage medium storing instructions that, when executed by the processor, cause the processor to perform operations comprising:
- receiving the image from the image sensor;
- generating a first scaled image having a first resolution;
- detecting a location of a license plate in the first scaled image;
- and
- reading the license plate from a second image in accordance with the location of the license plate;
- and
- providing a notification of the license plate via the output interface, wherein the second image has a second resolution greater than the first resolution.
One or more non-transitory computer-readable storage media storing executable instructions that, when executed by a processor, cause the processor to perform one or more operations comprising:
- generating a first image having a first resolution;
- detecting a location of a license plate in the first image;
- and
- reading the license plate from a second image in accordance with the location of the license plate, wherein the second image has a second resolution greater than the first resolution.
