Abstract
In described examples, a biosensor device has a porous membrane with a test region that contains a test analyte. A sensor die has an ion sensing field effect transistor (ISFET) with an ion sensitive gate element located in an active sensor surface of the sensor die. The active sensor surface is in contact with the porous membrane test region. A controller is coupled to the ISFET and an interface module is coupled to the controller to provide a human readable test result.
Claims21
A biosensor device comprising:
- a porous membrane having a first membrane region that contains a test analyte and a second membrane region that contains a reference analyte;
- a first sensor die having a first ion sensing field effect transistor (ISFET) having a first ion sensitive gate element located in a first active sensor surface of the first sensor die, wherein the first active sensor surface is in contact with the first membrane region;
- a second sensor die having a second ISFET having a second ion sensitive gate element located in a second active sensor surface of the second sensor die, wherein the second active sensor surface is in contact with the second membrane region;
- a controller coupled to the first ISFET and to the second ISFET;
- and
- an interface module coupled to the controller.

A method of operating a biosensor, the method comprising:
- diluting a sample of target molecules to form a sample liquid;
- depositing a drop of the sample liquid on a porous membrane of the biosensor;
- allowing the sample liquid to propagate through the porous membrane by capillary action;
- conjugating a reagent contained in the porous membrane with the target molecules to form conjugated target molecules;
- reacting the conjugated molecules with a test litigant in a test region of the porous membrane to produce a test pH level in the test region;
- reacting remaining conjugated molecules with a control litigant in a control region of the porous membrane to produce a control pH level in the control region;
- detecting an ion concentration in the test region using a first ion sensitive field effect transistor (ISFET), in which an ion sensitive element of the first ISFET is in contact with the test region of the porous membrane;
- and
- detecting an ion concentration in the control region using a second ISFET, in which an ion sensitive element of the second ISFET is in contact with the control region of the porous membrane.

A biosensor device comprising:
- a porous membrane having a test membrane region that contains a test analyte;
- a sensor die having at least one ion sensing field effect transistor (ISFET) having an ion sensitive gate element located in an active sensor surface of the sensor die, wherein the active sensor surface is in contact with the test membrane region;
- a controller coupled to the ISFET;
- and
- an interface module coupled to the controller.
