Abstract
Aspects of the present disclosure describe distributed fiber optic sensing (DFOS) systems, methods, and structures that advantageously enable anomaly detection resulting from construction—or other activity based on image processing that may advantageously detect/notify/prevent damage to a fiber optic network infrastructure before such damage occurs.
Claims10
A method of determining abnormal activity and threat assessment to a fiber optic infrastructure, the method comprising
- providing a distributed fiber optic sensing (DFOS)/distributed acoustic sensing (DAS) system in optical communication with a fiber optic cable that is part of the infrastructure;
- operating the DFOS/DAS to determine baseline vibration levels along a length of the fiber optic cable and storing the baseline vibration levels as associated with particular location(s) along the length of the fiber optic cable;
- continuously operating the DFOS/DAS and generating an alarm when a detected vibration event at one or more locations along the length of the fiber optic cable exceeds a pre-determined threshold (cutoff point) relative to the stored baseline vibration levels at those one or more locations.
