Abstract
An air turbine starter for starting an engine includes a starter housing defining an inlet, an outlet, and a flow path extending between the inlet and the outlet. A turbine section is located within the starter housing and includes a turbine member having a central disk and a set of airfoils spaced circumferentially about the central disk, as well as a sealing structure located within the starter housing.
Claims20
An air turbine starter for starting an engine, comprising:
- a starter housing defining an inlet, an outlet, and a flow path extending between the inlet and the outlet;
- and
- a turbine section located within the starter housing for rotatably extracting mechanical power from a flow of gas through the flow path, the turbine section comprising:
- a turbine member comprising a central disk and a set of airfoils spaced circumferentially about the central disk;
- a sealing structure located within the starter housing;
- and
- a fastener closing the sealing structure, the fastener comprising a first end having a cutting face confronting the central disk of the turbine member.
An air turbine starter for starting an engine, comprising:
- a starter housing defining an inlet, an outlet, and a flow path extending between the inlet and the outlet;
- and
- a turbine section located within the starter housing for rotatably extracting mechanical power from a flow of gas along the flow path, the turbine section comprising:
- a turbine member comprising a central disk and a set of airfoils spaced circumferentially about the central disk;
- a seal housing axially spaced from the turbine member and containing a seal at least partially therein;
- and
- a removable disk cutter having a cutting end confronting the central disk and a fastening end closing the seal housing.
