Abstract
The present disclosure relates to new metal complexes, including derivatives thereof, methods of making the metal complexes, and uses thereof, including uses, for example, as photosensitizers and as photocatalysts. In an embodiment, a metal complex having the structure of Formula (I): a salt, hydrate, solvate, tautomer, optical isomer, or combination thereof.

A metal complex having the structure of Formula I:
- a salt, hydrate, solvate, tautomer, optical isomer, or combination thereof;
- wherein:
- R1 to R8 are each independently selected from H, carboxylic acid group, carboxyl group, phosphate group, phosphonic acid group, hydroxamic acid group, amido group, halo group, hydroxyl group, amino group, nitro group, a substituted or unsubstituted carboxylhydrocarbon group, a substituted or unsubstituted hydrocarbon group, a substituted or unsubstituted heterogeneous group, a substituted or unsubstituted carbocyclic group, a substituted or unsubstituted heterocyclic group, substituted or unsubstituted aromatic, or a substituted or unsubstituted heteroaromatic;
- X1 to X3 are each independently selected from a substituted or unsubstituted aromatic, or a substituted or unsubstituted heteroaromatic;
- and
- M is a metal.
