Abstract
A lightweight spherical baseball like training ball has a hollow polyethylene plastic core adhered to a stitched white colored synthetic leather cover with a thin layer of adhesive. The lightweight ball has raised seams and measures in circumference similar to the ball circumference size mandated by Major League Baseball or softball rules whereby the ball is suitable for baseball and softball training and playing variations of the game of baseball or softball in confined areas.
Claims20
A ball for playing a modified game of baseball or softball comprising:
- an inner lightweight resilient plastic spherical core,
- the spherical core having a hollow center cavity and an outer spherical shell enclosing the hollow center cavity,
- the outer spherical shell having a uniform thickness to allow compression energy to be released thereby controlling the flight of the ball,
- a cover surrounding the outer spherical shell and enclosing the spherical core,
- the cover having a selected coloring and raised stitches to simulate a standard baseball or a standard softball.
A ball for playing a modified game of baseball or softball comprising:
- an inner lightweight round plastic core,
- the plastic core having a hollow round center cavity and an outer spherical shell surrounding and enclosing the hollow round center cavity,
- the outer spherical shell having one or more selected thicknesses to allow compression energy to be released thereby controlling the flight of the ball,
- a synthetic leather cover surrounding the outer spherical shell and enclosing the plastic core,
- an adhesive located between the synthetic leather cover and the outer spherical shell to adhere the synthetic leather cover to the outer spherical shell of the plastic core,
- the synthetic leather cover having a first synthetic leather cover portion and a second synthetic leather cover portion attached to the first synthetic leather portion, and
- raised stitches attaching the first synthetic leather cover portion to the second synthetic leather cover portion whereby the ball simulates a standard baseball or softball.
A method of making a ball for playing a modified game of baseball or softball comprising:
- providing an inner lightweight round core, the core having an outer polyethylene plastic spherical shell surrounding a hollow center cavity,
- providing the outer polyethylene plastic spherical shell with one or more selected thicknesses to allow compression energy to be released thereby controlling the flight of the ball,
- enclosing the outer polyethylene plastic spherical shell with a cover,
- adhering the cover to the outer polyethylene plastic spherical shell with an adhesive, and
- providing the cover with a selected coloring and raised stitches to simulate a standard baseball or a standard softball.
