Abstract
A physiological parameter system has one or more parameter inputs responsive to one or more physiological sensors. The physiological parameter system may also have quality indicators relating to confidence in the parameter inputs. A processor is adapted to combine the parameter inputs, quality indicators and predetermined limits for the parameters inputs and quality indicators so as to generate alarm outputs or control outputs or both.

A physiological monitor responsive to medical data received from independent medical devices, the physiological monitor comprising one or more hardware processors configured to:
- receive an oxygen saturation measurement responsive to irradiation of a tissue site with an optical sensor, wherein said oxygen saturation measurement has a first alarm threshold;
- receive a secondary parameter responsive to measurement from a second sensor that is different from the optical sensor;
- and
- generate an alarm based on the received oxygen saturation measurement and the received second parameter, wherein the alarm is generated at a higher oxygen saturation than the first alarm threshold, thereby providing an early warning instead of waiting for the oxygen saturation measurement to cross the first alarm threshold.
A physiological monitoring method responsive to medical data received from independent medical devices, the physiological monitoring method comprising:
- receiving an oxygen saturation measurement responsive to irradiation of a tissue site with an optical sensor, wherein said oxygen saturation measurement has a first alarm threshold;
- receiving a secondary parameter responsive to measurement from a second sensor that is different from the optical sensor;
- and
- generating an alarm based on the received oxygen saturation measurement and the received second parameter, wherein the alarm is generated at a higher oxygen saturation than the first alarm threshold, thereby providing an early warning instead of waiting for the oxygen saturation measurement to cross the first alarm threshold.
