Using infrared to detect proper eye alignment before capturing retinal images

A computer program product for detecting eye alignment during retinal imaging, the computer program product comprising a non-transitory computer-readable storage medium containing computer program code for:

• receiving an infrared stream from an imaging device, the infrared stream showing characteristics of an eye of a patient;
• inputting a frame of the infrared stream into a machine learning model;
• receiving as output from the machine learning model information indicating the eye is improperly aligned at a first time;
• outputting sensory feedback indicative of the improper alignment;
• detecting, based on the infrared stream at a second time later than the first time, that the eye is properly aligned;
• and
• receiving an image of a retina of the properly aligned eye from the imaging device.

A computer program product for detecting eye alignment during retinal imaging, the computer program product comprising a computer-readable storage medium containing computer program code that comprises:

• a first module for receiving an infrared stream from an imaging device, the infrared stream showing characteristics of an eye of a patient;
• a second module for inputting a frame of the infrared stream into a machine learning model
• a third module for receiving as output from the machine learning model information indicating the eye is improperly aligned at a first time;
• a fourth module for outputting sensory feedback indicative of the improper alignment;
• a fifth module for detecting, based on the infrared stream at a second time later than the first time, that the eye is properly aligned;
• and
• a sixth module for receiving an image of a retina of the properly aligned eye from the imaging device.
