Abstract
A load adaptive linear electrical generator system is provided for generating DC electrical power. The electrical generation system includes one or more power generation modules which will be selectively turned on or off and additively contribute power depending on the DC power demand. Each power generating module includes a pair of linear electrical generators connected to respective ones of a pair of internal combustion piston based power assemblies. The piston in the internal combustion assembly is connected to a magnet in the linear electrical generator. The piston/magnet assembly oscillates in a simple harmonic motion at a frequency dependent on a power load of the electrical generator. A stroke limiter constrains the piston/magnet assembly motion to preset limits.
Claims20
An apparatus comprising a first and a second electrical generator, each electrical generator comprising an internal combustion assembly and a power generator, each power generator comprising an inductive element for producing a voltage, the first and second electrical generators configured to produce respective electrical signals at different phases corresponding to different power stokes of the respective internal combustion assemblies;
- a capacitor;
- and
- a switching circuit coupled between the respective inductive elements of the first and second electrical generators and the capacitor for selectively coupling the same portion of the voltages produced by the respective inductive elements of the first and second electrical generators to the capacitor to develop an output voltage.
An apparatus comprising:
- a plurality of linear generators, each linear generator comprising an internal combustion assembly and an inductive element coupled to the internal combustion assembly, the inductive elements of the plurality of linear generators producing respective voltages of different phases;
- a capacitor;
- and
- a switching circuit coupled between the inductive elements and the capacitor, the switching circuit being configured to selectively couple the same portion of voltages produced by the respective inductive elements to the capacitor to develop an output voltage.
