Aggregation of Beacon Data for Network Load Mitigation

A computing device, comprising:

• a short-range communications interface;
• a memory;
• and
• a controller configured to:
• via the short-range interface, detect a plurality of beacons emitted by another computing device, each beacon containing an identifier of the other computing device wherein the computing device and the another computing device are configured to be mobile during operation;
• obtain respective proximity indicators corresponding to the beacons;
• generate a first set of aggregated attributes from the proximity indicators;
• store the first set of aggregated attributes in association with the identifier of the other computing device;
• and
• transmit the first set of aggregated attributes to a server configured to detect physical proximity between the computing device and the other computing device based on the first set of aggregated attributes.
