Techniques for improving new radio (nr) positioning performance

An apparatus for a first wireless communication device, comprising:

• a radio frequency (RF) interface configured to transmit and receive RF signals;
• and
• a processor configured to:
• process a signal received from a second wireless communication device to identify a first arrival path and at least one different arrival path between the first wireless communication device and the second wireless communication device;
• and
• transmit timing difference information associated with the at least one different arrival path to the second wireless communication device.

An apparatus for a user equipment (UE) comprising:

• a radio frequency (RF) interface configured to transmit and receive RF signals;
• and
• a processor configured to:
• receive a positioning signal parameter from a base station, wherein the positioning signal parameter is specific to the UE;
• and
• receive a positioning signal from the base station based on the positioning signal parameter.

An apparatus for a user equipment (UE), comprising:

• a radio frequency (RF) interface configured to transmit and receive RF signals;
• and
• a processor configured to:
• determine an estimated timing delay between the UE and a base station;
• and
• process a signal received from the base station;
• and
• refine the estimated timing delay based on the signal.
