## Abstract

Embodiments of a system and method for using a mobile device to assist with the efficient and secure delivery of item. The mobile device can assist an item deliver to lock or unlock secure item delivery receptacles. The mobile device can also notify an item deliverer about particular delivery conditions associated with particular delivery endpoints. The mobile device can further help the item deliverer to determine whether or not he or she is delivering the item to the correct location.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A system for item delivery to secured receptacles comprising:
a mobile computing device comprising a location module, wherein the location module detects the geographic position of the mobile computing device;
a server in communication with the mobile computing device;
a memory in communication with the server, the memory storing the identity an electronic lock securing a receptacle;
wherein the mobile computing device is configured to communicate an unlock key and an unlock command to the electronic lock based on the detected geographic position of the mobile computing device.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The system of claim 1, wherein the mobile computing device is configured to receive the unlock key from the server based on the detected geographic position of the mobile computing device.

### Claim 3 (depends on 1)

The system of claim 1, wherein the server is further configured to broadcast a mobile computing device identifier to the electronic lock, wherein the mobile delivery device is further configured to communicate the mobile computing device identifier to the electronic lock.

### Claim 4 (depends on 3)

The system of claim 3, wherein the mobile computing device identifier comprises a route identifier or a carrier identifier.

### Claim 5 (depends on 3)

The system of claim 3, wherein the mobile computing device is configured to store a route identifier or a carrier identifier corresponding to the route or carrier to which the mobile computing device is assigned.

### Claim 6 (depends on 3)

The system of claim 3, wherein the electronic lock is configured to open upon receipt of the unlock key, the mobile computing device identifier, and the unlock command.

### Claim 7 (depends on 1)

The system of claim 1, wherein the mobile computing device comprises a mobile delivery device and a fob.

### Claim 8 (depends on 7)

The system of claim 7, wherein the mobile computing device is configured to store a first portion of the unlock key on the fob and a second portion of the unlock key on the mobile delivery device.

### Claim 9 (depends on 8)

The system of claim 8, wherein the lock is configured to receive the first portion of the unlock key from the fob and the second portion of the unlock key from the mobile delivery device in order to unlock.

### Claim 10 (depends on 1)

The system of claim 1, wherein the mobile computing device is configured to communicate the unlock key and the unlock command to the lock when the mobile computing device is within a geofence of the electronic lock.

### Claim 11

A method for item delivery to secured receptacles comprising:
detecting, via a location circuit, the geographic location of a mobile computing device;
storing, in a memory, an identity of an electronic lock securing a receptacle;
communicating, via a communication circuit, an unlock key and an unlock command to the electronic lock based on the detected geographic position of the mobile computing device.

### Claim 12 (depends on 11)

The method of claim 11, further comprising, receiving, in the mobile computing device from the server, the unlock key based on the detected geographic position of the mobile computing device.

### Claim 13 (depends on 11)

The method of claim 11, wherein the server is further configured to broadcast a mobile computing device identifier to the electronic lock, wherein the mobile delivery device is further configured to communicate the mobile computing device identifier to the electronic lock.

### Claim 14 (depends on 13)

The method of claim 13, wherein the mobile computing device identifier comprises a route identifier or a carrier identifier.

### Claim 15 (depends on 13)

The method of claim 13, further comprising, storing, in the mobile computing device a route identifier or a carrier identifier corresponding to the route or carrier to which the mobile computing device is assigned.

### Claim 16 (depends on 13)

The method of claim 13, further comprising opening the electronic lock upon receipt of the unlock key, the mobile computing device identifier, and the unlock command.

### Claim 17 (depends on 11)

The method of claim 11, wherein the mobile computing device comprises a mobile delivery device and a fob.

### Claim 18 (depends on 17)

The method of claim 17, further comprising storing a first portion of the unlock key on the fob and a second portion of the unlock key on the mobile delivery device.

### Claim 19 (depends on 18)

The method of claim 18, further comprising, communicating to the electronic lock the first portion of the unlock key from the fob and the second portion of the unlock key from the mobile delivery device in order to open the electronic lock.

### Claim 20 (depends on 11)

The method of claim 11, further comprising communicating, by the mobile computing device, the unlock key and the unlock command to the lock when the mobile computing device is within a geofence of the electronic lock.
