## Abstract

Devices and methods are described for preparing, managing, and/or administering metered doses of substances for vaporized administration. In some embodiments, dose cartridges comprising at least one botanical substance include a heating element integrated into the cartridge in close contact with the botanical substance. In some embodiments, cartridge-mounted doses are stored in a magazine, optionally in carousel form, before use. Transport of a cartridge from a magazine to an electrically operated vaporizing chamber which activates the heating element is provided by a mechanical pickup means.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A dose cartridge dispensing assembly comprising:
a dose cartridge dispenser which stores a plurality of dose cartridges therein; the dose cartridge dispenser comprising a housing including at least one aperture leading into and out of an inner volume defined by said housing;
at least one administration element shaped and sized to be at least partially inserted into said at least one aperture, said administration element configured to carry a dose cartridge out from said dose cartridge dispenser or back into said dose cartridge dispenser via said at least one aperture; wherein said administration element is configured to engage a first dose cartridge in a manner which geometrically blocks engagement of said administration element to another, second dose cartridge, such that removal of said second dose cartridge from said dose cartridge dispenser is enabled only when said first dose cartridge is returned by said administration element back into said dose cartridge dispenser.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The assembly according to claim 1, wherein said plurality of dose cartridges are arranged on a carousel inside said housing of said dose cartridge dispenser, and wherein insertion of said administration element into said at least one aperture triggers rotation of said carousel.

### Claim 3 (depends on 1)

The assembly according to claim 1, wherein said plurality of dose cartridges are transported within said housing under motorized control.

### Claim 4 (depends on 3)

The assembly according to claim 3, wherein said dose cartridge dispenser comprises a stepper motor configured to drive movement of said plurality of dose cartridges within said housing.

### Claim 5 (depends on 1)

The assembly according to claim 1, wherein said plurality of dose cartridges are accessible in a sequential order.

### Claim 6 (depends on 1)

The assembly according to claim 1, wherein said plurality of dose cartridges are accessible in a non-sequential order.

### Claim 7 (depends on 1)

The assembly according to claim 1, wherein each of said plurality of dose cartridges comprises one or more latching elements which enable transport of said dose cartridge out from said dose cartridge dispenser or back into said dose cartridge dispenser.

### Claim 8 (depends on 1)

The assembly according to claim 1, wherein each of said plurality of dose cartridges comprises a flat pallet from which at least one active substance is vaporized.

### Claim 9 (depends on 8)

The assembly according to claim 8, wherein said at least one active substance comprises THC and/or nicotine.

### Claim 10 (depends on 8)

The assembly according to claim 8, wherein each of said plurality of dose cartridges comprises an electrically resistive heating element configured to heat said granulated material.

### Claim 11 (depends on 1)

The assembly according to claim 1, wherein said dose cartridge dispenser is a linear-type magazine in which said plurality of dose cartridges are stacked one on top of the other.

### Claim 12 (depends on 11)

The assembly according to claim 11, wherein said at least one aperture comprises a first slot through which a dose cartridge is removed from said magazine and a second slot through which a used dose cartridge is returned to said magazine.

### Claim 13 (depends on 1)

The assembly according to claim 1, comprising two administration elements configured to engage two dose cartridges concomitantly.

### Claim 14 (depends on 1)

The assembly according to claim 1, wherein said administration element comprises a dose puller/pusher which forms a part of an inhaler device configured for use with said dose cartridge dispenser, the dose puller/pusher configured to extend from said inhaler device and into said housing of said dose cartridge dispenser via said at least one aperture.

### Claim 15 (depends on 14)

The assembly according to claim 14, wherein said inhaler device comprises at least one airflow conduit and wherein said dose puller/pusher positions said dose cartridge in said inhaler device such that said dose cartridge is clamped within said airflow conduit.

### Claim 16

A method of dispensing a dose cartridge from a dose cartridge dispenser for use with an inhaler device, the dose cartridge dispenser comprising a housing in which a plurality of dose cartridges are stored, the method comprising:
returning, via an administration element, a dose cartridge that was used in the inhaler device back into said housing of said dose cartridge dispenser;
only if said used dose cartridge was returned into said housing by said administration element, removing, via said same administration element, a second, unused dose cartridge out from said housing of said dose cartridge dispenser and into said inhaler device for use.

### Claim 17 (depends on 16)

The method according to claim 16, comprising sensing if the administration element is holding said used dose cartridge.

### Claim 18 (depends on 16)

The method according to claim 16, comprising moving said plurality of dose cartridges inside said housing of said dose cartridge dispenser to place said second, unused dose cartridge in a use position from which said unused dose cartridge can be engaged by said administration element.

### Claim 19 (depends on 18)

The method according to claim 18, wherein said moving is controlled by a controller of said inhaler device according to a dosing regimen, placing selected dose cartridges in said use position.

### Claim 20 (depends on 16)

The method according to claim 16, wherein only one dose cartridge can be engaged by said administration element at a time.

### Claim 21 (depends on 16)

The method according to claim 16, wherein said dose cartridge dispenser housing is shaped and configured to allow access to only one dose cartridge at a time.

### Claim 22 (depends on 16)

The method according to claim 16, comprising, prior to said removing, selecting a dose cartridge according to an administration regimen.
