Abstract
Devices and systems for providing cross-agency communications at an incident are described. An incident manager determines attributes of devices to be used at the incident, negotiating the devices and device attributes with each first responder agency from which devices are to be dispatched to the incident. The manager controls lifecycles of network slices to provide communication services for the incident. The lifecycle is controlled based on communication from each UE indicating arrival to and departure from the incident, as well as the attributes of the UE.
Claims22
An apparatus of an incident manager to control communication, the apparatus comprising processing circuitry and a memory configured to:
- in response to reception of an indication of an emergency or public safety incident at an incident scene to which responders are to be dispatched, determine attributes of a plurality of user equipments (UEs) to be dispatched to the incident scene, the UEs associated with a plurality of agencies, the attributes of the UEs determined dependent on a type of the emergency or public safety incident and negotiation with agency consoles of the agencies, the attributes of the UEs comprising capabilities of, and network resources to be used by, the UEs;
- and
- control, via communication with a network slice orchestrator, a lifecycle of a network slice to provide communication service for the emergency or public safety incident, the lifecycle including instantiation, modification, and termination of the network slice, the lifecycle controlled based on communication from each UE indicating arrival to and departure from the incident scene in addition to the attributes of the UE, the network slice configured to provide communication among the agencies.
A method comprising:
- receiving a plurality of incident attributes corresponding to an incident and a plurality of network services to be provided to first responders assigned to the incident, the incident attributes including one or more of an incident identifier, an incident context, first responder profiles and communication device capabilities associated with the first responders, or network services to be provided corresponding to the incident;
- instantiating a plurality of network slices, each network slice associated with a unique network slice identifier and provisioned with network resources based on a respective set of the incident attributes to provide one or more of the network services to one or more of the first responders;
- identifying, in response to reception of a network slice join request from a communication device associated with one of the responders, at least one of the plurality of network slices based on at least one of a respective first responder profile or device capability of the communication device associated with the one of the first responders;
- and
- permitting, in response to reception of the network slice join request, the communication device to be connected to the identified at least one of the plurality of network slices to use a respective one or more of the network services provided by the identified at least one of the plurality of network slices.
A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium that stores instructions for execution by one or more processors of an apparatus, the one or more processors to configure the apparatus to, when the instructions are executed:
- receive a plurality of incident attributes corresponding to an incident and a plurality of network services to be provided to first responders assigned to the incident, the incident attributes including one or more of an incident identifier, an incident context, user profiles and communication device capabilities associated with the first responders, or network services to be provided corresponding to the incident;
- instantiate a plurality of network slices, each network slice associated with a unique network slice identifier and provisioned with network resources based on a respective set of the incident attributes to provide one or more of the network services to one or more of the first responders;
- identify, in response to reception of a network slice join request from a communication device associated with one of the responders, at least one of the plurality of network slices based on at least one of a respective user profile or device capability of the communication device;
- and
- permit, in response to reception of the network slice join request, the communication device to be connected to the identified at least one of the plurality of network slices to use a respective one or more of the network services provided by the identified at least one of the plurality of network slices.
