Abstract
The present disclosure relates to deblocking filtering which is applicable to smoothing the block boundaries in an image or video coding and decoding. In particular, the deblocking filtering is either strong or weak, wherein the clipping is performed differently in the strong filtering and the weak filtering.

(canceled)
A decoding device comprising:
- a memory;
- and
- circuitry coupled to the memory and configured to:
- select a filter adapted to a boundary between a first block and a second block, from among candidates;
- and
- perform a deblocking process to change values of pixels, using clipping such that change amounts of the values of the pixels are within respective clip widths, the pixels being arranged along a straight line across the boundary by using the selected filter, wherein
- the candidates include (i) a first filter which changes values of first pixels and uses a first clip width and (ii) a second filter which changes values of second pixels and uses a second clip width, a total number of the second pixels being larger than a total number of the first pixels, and
- the first clip width is different from the second clip width.
