Method and system for root cause analysis of network issues

A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium storing instructions that when executed by a computer cause the computer to perform a method for facilitating root cause analysis in a network, the method comprising:

• determining a set of monitoring elements in the network, wherein a respective monitoring element facilitates monitoring of events in the network;
• representing a respective monitoring element as a node of a graph, wherein a node pair of the graph is connected with an edge if the corresponding monitoring elements are related based on a relationship definition;
• receiving, from monitoring agents on one or more switches in the network, notifications indicating an issue in the network, wherein a respective monitoring agent monitors one or more switch components based on one or more monitoring rules;
• activating a set of nodes of the graph corresponding to the issue;
• determining a root cause of the issue by traversing the set of activated nodes of the graph;
• and
• determining a recovery action for mitigating the root cause.
