Ontology-backed automatic chart creation

A system comprising:

• one or more computer storage mediums configured to store data sets relationally-linked based on an ontology and store computer-executable instructions;
• one or more computer hardware processors configured to execute the computer-executable instructions to:
• generate and cause display in a user interface a thumbnail chart of a first chart, a thumbnail chart of a second chart, and a thumbnail chart of a third chart, each of the displayed thumbnail charts of the first chart, second chart, and third chart including information of a linked object set, and each of the displayed thumbnail charts of the first chart, second chart, and third chart corresponding to different filtering of the linked object set;
• receive a first user selection of one of the displayed first, second and third thumbnail charts;
• display a fourth chart in a main panel of the user interface corresponding to the selected thumbnail chart;
• reset the filtering displayed in the user interface to reflect the fourth chart displayed in the user interface;
• and
• receive a second user input indicating to perform additional filtering of information in the fourth chart using the fourth chart as the starting point for the additional filtering.
