Abstract
A mesoscale modeling system and method that enables meteorologists to adjust forecasts to account for known biases of weather forecasting models and outputs high-resolution images consistent with the adjusted forecasts. The mesoscale modeling system and method may also use a weather forecasting model to forecast future weather events based on one or more adjustments provided by the meteorologists.
Claims20
A computer implemented method for enabling meteorologists to adjust forecast in real-time to account for known convective feedback biases of existing weather forecasting models using high resolution cell-based maps or images, comprising:
- receiving, at a graphical user interface for a user, a selection of a plurality of weather forecasting models and a time period;
- combining the plurality of weather forecasting models;
- generating forecasted weather conditions, based on combining the plurality of weather forecasting models, for the time period;
- receiving, at the graphical user interface for the user, a selection of an additional mesoscale weather system;
- applying the additional mesoscale weather system to the forecasted weather conditions to generate a forecasted mesoscale weather system, wherein the forecasted mesoscale weather system includes a plurality of intensities of the forecasted mesoscale weather system at a plurality of locations in a geographic area;
- and
- generating for display the forecasted mesoscale weather system overlaid on a plurality of cells of a map or an image of the geographic area in a resolution such that the forecasted mesoscale weather system is depicted in the plurality of locations on the map or the image, and wherein each of the plurality of cells includes information indicative of a respective predicted intensity, of the plurality of intensities of the forecasted mesoscale weather system, at a respective predicted location of the plurality of locations.
A non-transitory, computer-readable medium for enabling meteorologists to adjust forecast in real-time to account for known convective feedback biases of existing weather forecasting models using high resolution cell-based maps or images comprising instructions that when executed by one or more processors causes operations, comprising:
- receiving, at a graphical user interface for a user, a selection of a plurality of weather forecasting models and a time period;
- combining the plurality of weather forecasting models;
- generating forecasted weather conditions, based on combining the plurality of weather forecasting models for the time period;
- receiving, at the graphical user interface for the user, a selection of an additional mesoscale weather system;
- applying the additional mesoscale weather system to the forecasted weather conditions to generate a forecasted mesoscale weather system, wherein the forecasted mesoscale weather system includes a plurality of intensities of the forecasted mesoscale weather system at a plurality of locations in a geographic area;
- and
- generating for display the forecasted mesoscale weather system overlaid on a plurality of cells of a map or an image of the geographic area in a resolution such that the forecasted mesoscale weather system is depicted in the plurality of locations on the map or the image, and wherein each of the plurality of cells includes information indicative of a respective predicted intensity, of the plurality of intensities of the forecasted mesoscale weather system, at a respective predicted location of the plurality of locations.
